Fir Tree Avenue, Browning Road, Reddish, Stockport

Stockport Homes and Stockport MBC

Fir Tree Primary School built in 1958 was closed and re-located to a new site in Reddish in 2011.

Following subsequent demolition the land was surplus to council requirements.

The design incorporated 51 two, three and four bedroom affordable homes and a disabled person bungalow. The main road frontage is maintained following building lines and roofscapes.

Within the development the houses are organized around A turning square and a formal shared pedestrian parking court.

To signify turning points at the entrance into the development and into the parking court, corner dwellings are expressed with asymetrical pitched roofs and double fronted gables, expressed additionally with contrasting brick to represent interlocking forms anchored to the corners.

Wall and roof materials are sympathetic with the area of 1950’s housing, and brick pavers are used in vehicle / pedestrian shared surfaces.
