Park Green, Macclesfield

Peaks and Plains Housing Trust

No 42 Park Green, a commercial building of silk and dye works origin, was built in approximately 1834 and is within Park Green Conservation Area.

Although not listed the front elevation is regarded of architectural interest within the street scene of Georgian and Victorian commercial buildings, two of which are grade II listed. Lying empty it has suffered years of neglect and rain penetration leading to the need for part demolitation, with the retention of the front fa├žade and reinstatement of the front roof and chimney stacks.

The design is for 3 affordable one bedroom apartments and a new central staircase all within the footprint of the original building.

A new rear elevation has windows positioned to suit and new internal plan while the front elevation has new windows and doors to replicate the original. Flood resilient measures are incorporated to mitigate flood risk.
